The Joy of Summer

The summer winds rolled over Deloris like a stroke from a penguin and she smiled. How she loved the heat.

The children in the park were playing with the abandon of those innocent of the tax system, blessed with the extra burst of energy given by the sun. It is the innate knowledge that weather like this won’t last; Deloris looked on wistfully. How she loved the heat.

Everyday troubles are lost in the maelstrom of heat on summer days; people no longer have mortgages, failing marriages or Irritable Bowel Syndrome to worry about, they can focus just on living life. And Deloris understood and cherished this. How she loved the heat.

It is just a shame that she is an ice cream sandwich.
